Eat your heart out at #DCVegFest17 this Saturday

IMG_4660Looking for a fun activity for the whole family this Labor Day weekend? You might want to check out the D.C. VegFest at the Yards Park on Saturday, September 2.  After all, it’s the largest vegan festival on the East Coast.

Last Tuesday, Compassion Over Killing hosted its annual D.C. VegFest preview party at Busboy’s and Poets so we could get a taste of what to expect this year. This has been one of our favorite events, and we are so excited that several returning and new vegan and vegetarian vendors will be offering free samples and giveaways at #DCVegFest17. This year, it is expected that more than 20,000 peopleIMG_4662 will attend the festival in Yard’s Park to enjoy free food, talks by celebrity speakers, more than 130 vendor booths, live music and more. VegFest is a family friendly event with something for everyone, including a kids’ zone, cooking activities, a shaded Barking Lot for dogs, and a Busboys and Poets beer garden.

DCVegFest has grown over the years as more and more people become educated about the benefits of adopting a vegan lifestyle. Speakers this year will include:

  • US Congressman Jamie Raskin, Representative from Maryland’s 8th District
  • David Carter, former NFL player and “The 300 Pound Vegan”
  • Miyoko Schinner, CEO of Miyoko’s Kitchen, author “Artisan Vegan Cheese”
  • Grey, vegan rapper
  • Doron Petersan, owner of DC’s Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats and FareWell
  • Ruby Lathon, holistic nutritionist
  • Eddie Garza, author, “¡Salud! Vegan Mexican Cookbook”
  • Kathy Stevens, Founder Catskill Animal Sanctuary

IMG_4790The event will be held on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 2 from 11:00am – 6:00pm at Yards Park in Washington, D.C..
