Canopy Central Brings Southern Eats and Essence to The Wharf

There’s something about catching that breeze off the river at The Wharf that puts you in a Southern state of mind.  And as far as we know, there’s only one restaurant in that area that can satiate a craving for those types of down home delights: Canopy Central.

Canopy Central in the Hilton’s Canopy Hotel at The Wharf (975 7th Street SW) is now under the direction of Chef Megan Robbins, who brings to your table recipes handed down from her Mama that focus on a sincerely Southern upbringing — like Peach & Pecan SaladFried Pickles, Boiled Peanut Hummus, and pimento on everything!

Located on the 2nd floor adjacent to the hotel’s lobby, and boasting accessible views of the Potomac Pier, Canopy Central is a great gathering place.  Views are beautiful, seating is usually easy to come by, and the hospitality has heart.

The eats are pretty enticing, too.

Obviously the flatbreads are a straightforward option, and entrées like the Peach Tea Brined Pork Chop and Fried Catfish may be too good to pass up, but our favorite portion of the menu contains the ten small plate items.  All are tempting, so mix, match, or share several among a group to fulfill all of your flavor hankerings.  Canal Crab Cakes, Coconut Battered Onion Rings, and Roasted Creamy Corn Dip are a perfect trio to start… though there’s an actual trio of hummuses on the menu, if you’re looking to picnic a little of that pimento we’ve been talking about.

And ‘Well, I Declare!’ the other thing to love most about Canopy is its advance Happy Hour — timed perfectly for a warm Southern summer afternoon. Every Sunday – Thursday from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. at the bar and patio, guests can get their “Grown Up Juice” — like $4 draft beers — and snacks — like a pile of $12 Pimento Crab Fries — early and easy.

See y’all there!
