Hay rides, farm animals, orchards and pumpkin patches. It’s October! If you’re looking for a Fall Festival – or just a fun autumn afternoon – we’ve got some of the best in the area to tell you about.

Butler’s Orchard
(22200 Davis Mill Rd., Germantown, MD)
Weekends in October. $9 admission. Children 2 and under free.
The hay maze is amazing!

Homestead Farms
(15600 Sugarland Rd., Poolesville, MD)
Daily in October, 9 – 6 PM.
This one has great pumpkins. It’s where we’ve gotten ours for the last two years! And check out the schedule to pick your own fruit.

Sharp’s at Waterford Farm
(4003 Jennings Chapel Rd., Brookeville, MD)
Weekends in October, 10 – 5 PM. Free admission.
Bring the kids to feed the farm animals.

Gaver Pumpkin Patch
(5501 Detrick Rd., Mt. Airy, MD)
Daily in October, 10 – 6 PM. Festival entry: $5, Children under 2 free. Hayrides and pumpkin picking – Free.
Arg! A pirate ship and a corn maze keeps the toddlers tied up (and the bigger kids, too!).

Cox Farms

One of the largest Fall Festivals in VA, the giant slides and rope swings are spectacular.

Burke Nursery & Garden Center
(9401 Burke Rd., Burke, VA)
Everyday in October. 9 AM – 9 PM $9 weekdays, $12 weekends
This fab Fest showcases Native American storytellers, clowns, musicians, magicians and more. Now in it’s 15th year!

Hollins Farms Orchard
(11324 Pearlstone Lane, Delaplane, VA)
Wed – Sun, 9-5, Free Admission
Hollins boasts one of the largest pumpkin patches in NoVa. Pick ’em and enjoy the pony rides.

Old Mine Ranch
(17507 Mone Rd., Dumfries, VA)
Everyday in October, 10 – 5, $6
It’s Halloween after all. Get scared by Old Mine’s Spookfest every night (except Sunday) from 7-9 PM.
