Opera was in its natural habitat Saturday night at the Italian Embassy for the closing of
Opera Camerata of Washington’s twenty-first season. Opera lovers gathered to not only
hear the soaring arias from Verdi’s bittersweet Rigoletto, but to commemorate the 150th
anniversary of Italy’s unification.
Known for presenting classic operas in small, intimate settings, Opera Camerata went
out with a bang with hundreds filling the massive main hall of the embassy for this final
performance.
The small company will continue their Verdi love affair this fall with two other works by the
