Washington, DC’s 9th Annual Travel & Adventure Show is set to once again heat up the Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place, NW) this year, with the return of the Culinary Stage, showcasing gastronomic presentations featuring local, regional and global flavors.  The show, which offers Washingtonians the opportunity to discover their inner explorer, returns Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10, providing attendees the opportunity to explore hands-on activities, attend engaging travel seminars, and win incredible giveaways, all while finding the vacation of a lifetime.

Sponsored by the Maine Office of Tourism, the Culinary Stage will showcase chef demonstrations and discussions, and is hosted by Season 3 Hell’s Kitchen winner,Chef Rahman “Rock” Harper and America’s only female swordfishing captain, Linda Greenlaw, made famous in the movie “A Perfect Storm.” Since winning Hell’s Kitchen, Chef Rock has expanded his talents to writing and culinary instruction and is currently the Director of Kitchen Operations for DC Central Kitchen. Captain Greenlaw is the author of three New York Times bestselling books about life as a commercial fisherman, and is currently featured in the hit series, “Swords: Life on the Line” on the Discovery Channel. The schedule for the Stage is as follows:

Saturday, March 9:

12:30 pm                              Captain Linda Greenlaw  –America’s only female swordfishing captain
will discuss her Life on the Seas and cook up Swordfish with Blood Orange and Ginger

2:00 pm                                Sucheta Rawal, Go.Eat.Give will speak on How to Find the Real Cuisine of a Country

3:30 pm                                Chef J. Jackson, Entrée Metropolitan will demo A Taste of the Caribbean with Jerk Popcorn Crusted Chicken Strips with Mango Mint Dipping Sauce

The Culinary Stage is just one of the many ways that show attendees can discover the myriad facets of traveling. Travel headliners on the Main Stage include travel icon Arthur Frommer, best-selling travel writer, publisher and creator of the Frommer’s series of travel guides; Andrew Zimmern, co-creator, host and contributing producer of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Worldand Public broadcasting stalwartRick Steves, host of Rick Steves Europe, are among the industry luminaries who will host exclusive seminars for show attendees on various topics to help one plan an ideal vacation.

New this year, both SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment and Busch Gardens will play a role in the show, with exhibitions that are both entertaining and educational. SeaWorld Orlando will offer visitors a voyage to the icy world of Antarctica, providing a virtual sneak peek of the continent’s thrills and chills. Walk side by side with a penguin colony, go beneath the surface, become an Arctic explorer and enjoy a unique family experience. There will even be live Magellanic penguins making scheduled appearances.
