Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007). Cool Gift Idea of the Month

Gift giving is stressful. Why else would gift cards be so popular? Give them funds to buy their own choice and be done with it. The pressure is off of us to find something they’ll truly like. But then, unused cards lose value as fees are taken over time, and besides, the experience of opening a gift is lost.

And then I was sent a Vivabox. Think of this as a hybrid between a gift card and a real gift: or two gifts in one. First you get the real (openable) gift (wine, cologne, BBQ, coffee, tea, magazines, movies, gourmet food…) and then the second gift you get to custom select.

I opened the box to find “The Gift of a Cafe Experience.” Inside were three samples of coffee, hazelnut flavored syrup, a CD of jazz music and a gift card. After tasting all three cafe selections, I visit the Vivabox website to make a selection on my favorite and redeem the giftcard for my real gift!

It’s cute. It’s fun. It’s unique. And I’m definitely using Vivabox the next time I’m stuck looking for that. perfect. gift. Plus, new themes are coming… I think the iPod accessory box will be a future favorite.
