A Helping…

Today is National Pancake Day, and you can imagine what we suggest you to do honor the date. How about tucking into a hot pile of buttermilk pancakes topped with thick syrupy goodness and a side of support for a local charity?
For five years, IHOP – that’s the International House of Pancakes – has been celebrating National Pancake Day with a giveaway and an ambitious goal. Back in 2006, IHOP set its sights on a cumulative $5 million for charity by 2010 and hopes to reach the goal in this final year. “We are flipping for ‘five in five’ with our 2010 National Pancake Day campaign” says Carolyn O’Keefe, IHOP’s Senior Vice President of Marketing. “IHOP [has] raised more than $3.25 million to support Children’s Miracle Network and other local charities since… 2006. The day has become a tradition.”

Here’s the fun part: From 7 am – 10 pm, IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer guests a free short stack (3) of IHOP’s signature buttermilk pancakes, and in return, ask guests to donate what they would have paid for the pancakes (or more!) to their local children’s hospital or another designated local charity.

Giveaway goods (pancakes) over the last five years would stack up more than 53.5 miles high! How high is your helping?
