Whiskey, Wine & Whip Counts?! Article One Now Has Capitol Social Hour

Forget the floor vote. It’s time for a bar stool. The Hill has a new happy-hour hangout.

Article One – American Grill is serving up Capitol-inspired cocktails and small plates Monday through Friday, giving politicos and power players a tasty excuse to clock out.

Article One – American Grill can be found inside the recently renovated Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, and — because even Washington’s busiest dealmakers need a little downtime — it’s rolling out Capitol Social Hour, a weekday wind-down featuring handcrafted cocktails and shareable bites just 1,287 steps from the U.S. Capitol. (Yes, someone counted.)

The cocktail list brings a bipartisan approach to the bar, with names that practically demand a campaign slogan. Sip a D.C. Sour, a Constitutional Collins, or a House Vote Margarita. Prefer your politics with a little more bourbon? The Capitol Old Fashioned has your name on it (and that of this author!), while the Potomac Mule offers a rum-and-ginger-beer alternative.

On the edible agenda: A1 Smash Sliders topped with Cooper Sharp cheese and pecan-smoked bacon jam; Chesapeake Bay oysters served with green apple mignonette and house-made DC mambo sauce; and a baked lobster roll with smoked mozzarella and lemon aioli. Also on the docket are crispy tofu flatbread with crème de Brie, caramelized onion, and balsamic glaze, plus crispy garlic chicken with shoyu, sesame, and chili flakes.

Consider your culinary coalition assembled, because, naturally, there are pairing recommendations, too. Think Cabernet Sauvignon with that smash slider, Sauvignon Blanc alongside the oysters, and a Belgian white with the lobster roll.

Available Monday through Friday, 4 to 6 pm, Capitol Social Hour offers a convenient stop for post-office meetups, midweek mingling, or simply escaping the Capitol Hill hustle without straying far from the action.

And if happy hour turns into dinner? That get’s our vote.

No lobbying required. Just show up, raise a glass, and let the bipartisan bonding begin.
