Touchdown! At This Wknd’s Superbowl of Shopping
Stylish women of the DC area were queued up by 7:30 in the morning last Saturday for the 12th annual Old Town Alexandria Warehouse Sale. It’s been called the “Super Bowl of Shopping Event” (always occurring the Saturday of Super Bowl weekend), and in the tradition of big city sample sales, this free event is a great way to shop the best boutiques at outlet prices.
A few dozen super lucky early admission winners bee lined to Lululemon — a clear favorite boutique this year — grabbed everything in their size, and started trying things on in the center of the ballroom. Just behind them, attendees flocked to the back of the space where Old Town favorites like The Shoe Hive and Bishop Boutique had table of shoes piled high at rock bottom prices. A woman with a baby strapped to her squealed with delight at a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes for under $100!
While the event supports the private boutique owners of Old Town, many new stores were camped out from Annapolis to Chevy Chase… and even stores that are web exclusive. The over 1,000 shoppers could buy new, sale, used and even vintage. Accessories, personalized items and decor were snatched up quickly as the din from the outside line grew, but even those waiting to get in for deals and steals were treated to giveaways of leather purses and gourmet chocolate bar gift bags.
