A Taste of Bethesda’s New Modern Market

screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-11-27-38-pmSure, the food choices in Bethesda are plentiful… but there is always room for a new kid on the block!

Modern Market, a place that approaches food from an unorthodox point of view, opened its first East Coast location in Downtown Bethesda about a month ago. The eatery serves breakfast, lunch, dinner — even happy hour!

The cuisine is simple American food, but the food and drinks are far from boring. Anthony Pigliacampo, Founder of Modern Market, challenges diners to enjoy (never drink fat free milk again?!) and eat fresh.

“Every ingredient matters,” he said.

Modern Market may put an emphasis on farm fresh dishes, but that doesn’t mean that the dishes themselves are devoid of creativity. screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-11-27-46-pmCulinary Director Nate Weir included Greek yogurt instead of whipped cream in a waffle dish (deceivingly called Plain Waffle) and used crème fraîche in a Bacon Corn pizza in addition to the three-cheese blend of mozzarella, provolone, and fontina.

Weir said that the dishes he comes up with are simple, but that doesn’t mean that they’re easy to make. However, the dishes that he helps bring into being are simple enough to make at home.

“Nothing overworked or too complex,” he said.

The prices for the menu items are also fairly affordable, with all of the dishes under $15 each, so you can feel good about what you’re eating without putting a huge dent in your wallet!
