Recent news has Washingtonians rejoicing that popular pizzeria Stellina is expanding its fast-casual Italian food venue into a second location on K Street (508 K Street NW).

Just don’t get confused when you see the Waffle Shop sign.  Rumor has it that, in a nod to the location’s historic predecessor, The Waffle Shop, Stellina on K will not only save the signage but will also offer diner dishes and weekend brunch.

But while the second location sounds doubly delicious, the part of the expansion announcement that really got us salivating was the introduction of Annaré, Stellina founders’ counter-service Italian bakery in Union Market.

Located just inside the Market’s front entrance, co-owners Antonio Matarazzo and Matteo Venini here pay tribute to their Grandmother with authentic Italian pastries and desserts.

In fact, these taste gave them so much nostalgia for Nona’s pastries that they named it for her!

Annaré — already open — offers a variety of tray cakes, cannoli, rum babas, tiramisu, mille-feuille and other baked delicacies.  Here you can order the Italian classic, bomboloni, with flavor options like Nutella, crema and fruit, alongside less traditional takes, like one filled with molten tiramisu. Woah.

In addition to pastries, Annaré serves hot Cameo chocolate, Lavazza nitro cold-brewed coffee and a selection of Italian dessert wines, including Moscato, Vin Santo and Passito.

Buon Appetito!
