Selina Opens in Union Market with $50 Room Shares

A hotel built expressly for nomadic travelers opened earlier this month in the Union Market neighborhood.

Selina, a hospitality brand that specifically targets millennial and Gen Z travelers, has opened its seventh Selina in the United States, Selina Union Market.  The hotel — “designed for digital nomads and modern travelers” — features a collaborative space for diverse communities to congregate, modern industrial décor, and original screened artworks from Washington artists Veronica Barker-Barzel and Victory Dance Creative in whimsical, creative displays throughout the property.

Designers incorporated the fact that the space was formerly a seed factory and antique shop, weaving earth-tone colors and upcycled furniture into its 106 rooms of mixed accommodations, including suites, standard rooms, micro bedrooms, and shared-style dormers.

Introductory room rates (which vary depending on seasonality) start from $200 per night for a standard room and $500 per night for a private loft, but Selina also offers Community Accommodations at around $50 per night for a bed in one of the shared-style rooms, so there are options for almost any budget.

The property also includes multiple open-floor coworking spaces (you can even reserve a dedicated monthly desk!) and private meeting rooms, an all-day restaurant, four rentable artist studios, a cinema room, a common kitchen, an onsite wellness studio, a downstairs cellar for dancing, and an expansive rooftop with stunning city views and amazing cocktails.

Partnership experiences complete Selina’s curated stays. The hotel is working with a variety of local partners including organic skincare line Skincando; on-demand mobile IV therapy concierge Pure Drop IV; musician DJ Farrah Flosscett and concert organizer Sofar Sounds; and artist Vero Barker, to provide surprises and special programs for guests.

Other activations include pop-up food and beverage shops, wellness classes, movie nights, comedy shows, professional talks, access to tours with local distilleries and museums, dance classes, and rooftop parties.

And for the nomad who needs to have a plan, we also love that the website tells you how to get to each Selina from the next closest one — for now, it’s in Chelsea, a three-hour train ride or an hour flight away.

To celebrate its opening, Selina Union Market is offering 25% off accommodation through Aug. 31, 2022.
