Scissors & Scotch: DC Now Has a Trio of these Upscale Barber-Bars

This isn’t about artsy and hipster. Scissors & Scotch is a men’s barber-bar that gives guys a place to go when they need to cut a little off and/or pour a little more.

What began in Kansas now has locations around the nation — including three in or near DC (Navy Yard, Union Market, and Ballston) with three more on the way (Wharf, Reston, Loudon).

Like similar grooming lounges you may have seen around, Scissors & Scotch offers haircuts, shaves, trims, coloring, waxing, and shoe shines. But these modern barbershops also feature a full bar where clients can grab a cocktail while waiting to sit in the shampoo chair — or after to celebrate that fine cut. (It’s also a great place for anyone waiting to spend a little time sipping since the bar isn’t for salon patrons only…  though cuts do come with a drink on the house.)

Priced around $50 for full-service barbering, which includes the luxury of a shampoo and hot towel treatment, Scissors & Scotch’s upscale services are a cut above most other trim shops. They also come with a bit of club cachet. Optional monthly and annual memberships include benefits and discounts, but even those stopping in for a single cut/color/shave are treated like they have a reserved spot at the bar. Probably because… they do.

ProTip: For ladies or gents looking to get your guy a great gift this holiday season, consider a membership to Scissors & Scotch. You know he needs the haircut. He knows he needs a few fingers of the gentleman’s drink behind the bar. (Bonus! Many of the spirits and all of the hair artists are locally sourced!)

We’ll raise a glass to that!
