Popular ZooFari Gourmet Gathering Becomes Virtual – FREE – ‘Byte Night’ in 2020
Zoofari’s annual gourmet gathering, Bite Night, is coming out of its cage. Because in 2020, adaptation is everything.
In response to the continuing health crisis, Bite Night: ZooFari has become “Byte Night: ZooFari, sponsored by GEICO,” and for the first time in 35 years, will be held online… and FREE. The virtual event, hosted by the Friends of the National Zoo, will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 25 via livestream.
“The world has changed, and we’re excited to host a livestreaming event that combines D.C.’s best chefs, the Zoo’s animals, and some of the Smithsonian’s incredible conservation success stories into one fantastic night,” said Lynn Mento, executive director of FONZ. “We might not be able to meet in person, but we can still gather virtually in support of the animals we love!”
During the hourlong event, guests will get an update on the Zoo’s adorable giant panda cub, see awesome animal demos, hear from some surprise celebrity guests, and bid on auction items and experiences. Attendees may be on the comfort of their own couch, but they’ll still participate in supporting the vital projects of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, Conservation Biology Institute, and Conservation Nation.
Event registration is free here. Or, take a mega Byte with any of Byte Night’s VIP packages, which can either mean bringing one of D.C.’s best chefs into your home to cook a meal for family and friends (for the full list, click here.); having a prepared meal sent to your door; or receiving a curated selection of wine or beer (with snacks) — all on a night of your choice. VIP packages also include virtual Q&As with Zoo experts, a behind-the-scenes look at the Zoo, and other interesting perks.
But even if you are attending for free, don’t miss out on the awesome auction, which includes items like animal-created paintings, travel packages, and other totally cute creature experiences.
