New Exclusive-Access Ned’s Hopes to Renew DC’s Interest in Membership Clubs

DC used to be a town of membership clubs, though their popularity has waned the last decade or so.  One new exclusive-access club is hedging its bets that it can turn that tide around. Ned’s Club Washington D.C. will open this winter.

The first Ned opened in 2017 in London, later expanding to New York and Doha. DC’s Ned’s Club will be the fourth location, “not just providing physical space but an environment that reimagines networking, entertainment, dining, and events in an iconic building,” according to Gareth Banner, The Ned Group Managing Director.

Each Ned’s Club location is unique. DC’s is a “roaring twenties-inspired social club,” that pays tribute to the club’s location — the upper three floors of an historic building (734 15th Street NW) near the White House.

Décor is giving Art Deco vintage vibes. Of particular interest are custom mosaic designs on the floor and two permanent art collections.

The Club has a Rooftop Terrace and Loft Restaurant that boasts views overlooking the White House, U.S. Treasury and Washington Monument. Additional rooms include a Founder’s Dining Room, The Library, Drawing Room, Gallery, and Conservatory, as well as private event spaces.

Membership applications are now open, with the fee expected to match the Ned NoMad opening rate of $5,000 per year, with a $1,500 initiation charge. Existing SoHo House members are offered a discounted rate to hobnob with Washington’s high-powered. (Ned’s Club is affiliated with Soho House founder Nick Jones and Soho House & Co Inc. investor Ron Burkle.)

Unlike many DC membership clubs which can tout past presidents on their membership rosters, however, Ned’s Club DC is too new just yet. It’ll have to settle for a tenth-floor decorative tribute to DC power players inhabiting the Oval Office.

Ned’s Club membership gives exclusive access to dedicated spaces including bars, restaurants, and the rooftop. Monthly events and other programming such as talks with thought leaders, masterclasses, and invitations to offsite sporting and cultural events are also membership perks.

Reciprocal access to clubs in London, New York, and Doha, along with special access to events around the world may also be strong membership selling points.
