LavaBarre Celebrates Fit and Fabulous Grand Opening
LavaBarre opened the doors to a new studio last week in Rosslyn, providing members and VIPs the opportunity to sample barre, cycling, TRX and yoga classes. The 20-minute class samplers gave the neighborhood workout gurus a taste of the cross training options that LavaBarre offers in addition to its barre specialty.
Co-owners Lauren Price and Vanessa Ligorria met when they were barre instructors and realized they should and could create a “better, more difficult, more cardio driven form of barre.” In 2012, the LavaBarre technique began being used and they opened their first studio in Clarendon as well as pop-up Barre in the Park classes in Rosslyn!
LavaBarre has since outgrown its old Clarendon studio, but despite the move to a bigger space, class sizes do not exceed 15-18 students, allowing for more individualized instruction and correction to avoid injury.
Price and Ligorria call barre “the perfect exercise,” but in the midst of opening the new studio, the duo decided to make LavaBarre about more than just barre.
“We realized you need to be doing other things. You need to be cross training. We need to have cardiovascular and endurance added into our routines. We decided as a specialized fitness boutique that it would be best to draw crowds by bringing other forms of fitness,” said Price.
LavaBarre is, of course, their specialty. Their LavaCycle class is a “party on a bike”… the sampler class was accompanied by a live percussionist. LavaYoga is the perfect compliment to the other classes so that you stretch out your muscles properly and are rejuvenated. They even teach you how to use TRX suspension in a class format with LavaTRX.
“It’s still in a small enough setting that the instructor is walking around, making corrections, making sure you’re not going to injure yourself and you’re getting the most out of the exercise at all times,” said Ligorria.
All Lava Barre studio classes are music driven, making workouts feel worth it and fun. The classes use a piece of equipment you already have — your body — and using your own body weight for resistance and tone.
“Everyone that comes to our classes will feel like they’re getting that personalized attention, as well as luxurious quality products and a community atmosphere,” said Price.
After finishing one of those go-breathless workouts, the magic word for LavaBarre clients, the LavaCorps, is towel. When you leave class, you are greeted in the lobby by a “Lava Lavender” scented towel.
