Eat. Drink. Shaw.
“Shaw Main Street is one of our strongest Main Streets,” according to DC Department of Small and Local Business Development Director Kristi Whitfield. Whitfield was among those enjoying the best of the neighborhood at its annual event to celebrate all things Shaw, newly dubbed Eat. Drink. Shaw., at the Howard Theatre Wednesday night (4/24/19).
Showcasing 27 of the area’s 100 or so destinations to drink and dine, the annual event (formerly “A Taste of Shaw”) has grown alongside the neighborhood.
Entertainment — like Grammy nominated progressive hip-hop artist, Christylez Bacon — played for the crowd as they enjoyed the main floor of the theatre’s smorgasbord of tastes. Among the standouts were Espita Mezcaleria‘s tostada, chicken biscuits from Mason Dixie Biscuit Company, fresh baked bread from Seylou Bakery & Mill, and Convivial‘s take on a strawberry short cake dessert. Service Bar and Roy Boys win this writer’s top honors for the soiree’s sips.
All in all, it was a celebration of Shaw that shouldn’t be missed.
Other events in Shaw to look forward to include the opening of the Shaw Art Market in June, and Shaw’s Art All Night in September.
