Did My Dog Love the St. Gregory Hotel Washington DC More Than I Did?
At an unbeatable location in the West End — close to Dupont, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom and the Golden Triangle — the St. Gregory Hotel (2033 M Street NW) is a luxury option at an affordable price for business travel, city tourism, and even staycations.
The independent boutique hotel sits on a coveted corner near a small park and welcomes with a discerning upscale urban feeling. Guests walk into a library-esque lobby full of books (paradise as far as this reviewer is concerned!) and will catch themselves vibing on the hotel’s homestyle touches for the whole of their stay.
It may be a bit of a walk to get to DC’s touristy sites, but it’s oh-so easy to get to public transportation… should visitors ever choose to leave the neighborhood. Friendly staff will offer suggestions for local hangouts and hidden gems since the neighborhood already has so much to offer. And the hotel itself is at the heart of it.
Recently renovated guest rooms are stylishly soothing. In a color scheme of dark grays and whites with pops of color, they feature updated furnishings and apartment-style amenities including mini-fridges, microwaves and (some) even dishwashers! Hardwood flooring and accent carpets add to their instagram flair while working desks with ample outlets make them perfect places to actually get work done. We also loved using the Nespresso Coffee makers, iHome alarm clock ,and L’Occitane Verbena toiletries. (If you can splurge a bit, we suggest you opt for the additional Virtue Skinfood package: local and totally worth it, these wellness products are not only interesting, but take your skincare and conditioning routine to the next level.)
Speaking of health, the St. Gregory Hotel’s gym is remarkable, even for its size. There, you’ll find two Peloton bikes, two treadmills, ellipticals, weights, a punching bag, and an inspiring view over the outdoor pool of the apartment building next door.
Have a post-workout juice at Tredici Enoteca, where you’ll also be tempted with flatbreads and Mediterranean fare at mealtimes. The hotel restaurant’s mismatched clusters of tables are generally full of guests making use of the community space and complimentary wifi, especially in-between lunch and dinner — and later for the daily wine Happy Hour.
We (my pup and I) stayed in summer, but are already looking forward to a winter lounge visit to cozy up next to the resto-lobby fireplace with a borrowed book from the St. Gregory’s collection! While I loved the comfort of the room, he just wanted to spend the afternoon people watching in the lounge or sunning himself on the hotel’s spectacular outdoor terrace.
Yes, the St. Gregory Hotel patio is truly a downtown Eden, especially on warm summer evenings when humans sip prosecco with their pups during Yappy Hour.
Obviously, dogs are more than welcome at the St. Gregory Hotel Washington DC property, which offers special packages and accommodations for four-legged friends including treats from nearby Doggy Style Bakery, personalized bowls, beds, and baggies. An affordable $50 pet fee is charged per animal (under 50 lbs only allowed) with a portion of this benefitting locally-based national charity Paws of Honor.
For its atmosphere, amenities, location and pet friendliness, this human highly recommends a St. Gregory Hotel Washington stay — and my pup definitely rated it two paws up!
ProTip: The hotel’s $30 “resort fee” is not optional, but it includes so many things you’ll appreciate, including bottled water, wifi, use of the fitness center, discounts on Bird scooters, morning coffee and a light European breakfast in the lobby, and a nightly wine hour with generous pours.
