2026 ‘Cherry Picks’: Petal-Powered Plans for Peak Bloom

Cherry blossom season is back, and here at K Street Magazine, we’re chasing petals with a perfectly curated mix of culture, cuisine, and can’t-miss community moments. From sake-sipping soirées to riverside revelry, here are some of our favorite ways to bask in bloom this season:

Sakura Saturdays at the Omni Shoreham Hotel DC

🌸 Sakura Saturdays

Skip the selfie scrum and step into something more soulful. Sakura Saturdays (March 28 & April 4) in the lobby at the Omni Shoreham Hotel serve up a refined retreat with live koto melodies, delicate Japanese bites, and hands-on artistry (hello, origami). It’s a transportive tribute to the 1912 origins of DC’s blossoms, equal parts cultural and calming.

🌸 Pink in the Park
Across the river,  National Landing is popping off with this FREE and free-flowing festival series. Think open-air art, live music, and blossom-drenched installations. Don’t miss:

  • Pink Beats (Thursday, April 2, and Thursday, April 9, from 5 to 8 pm) for DJ-driven happy hour vibes with a whimsical twist
  • Art of Pink (Friday, April 10, from 5-10 pm) at Metropolitan Park for after-dark artistry, mural matchups, and interactive exhibits
It’s springtime energy with a side of skyline.

🌸 Petalpalooza
A FREE full-day fête along the Anacostia, Petalpalooza (April 4, 1-9 pm) packs in performances, pop-ups, and plenty of family-friendly fun. Stay for the grand finale, the Official National Cherry Blossom Festival Fireworks show set to music at 8:30 pm.

🌸 Omakase Evenings
For a more intimate indulgence, this 10-seat omakase experience at Kingbird in the Watergate Hotel (March 30 & April 6) delivers a 15-course journey that blends Japanese precision with global flair. Timed to peak bloom, it’s a culinary celebration as fleeting — and fabulous — as the blossoms themselves. ($150, 10 seats per sitting)

Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C. Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea v.5
Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C. Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea

🌸 Afternoon Tea in Bloom
Pinkies up for a Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea service that’s as photogenic as it is flavorful. At the Willard Intercontinental from March 13 through April 26 in the Willard’s Peacock Alley, expect cherry-infused blends, delicate tea sandwiches, and desserts dressed for spring, all paired with live harp music and a side of DC elegance. ($105/ adult. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays at noon & 2:30 pm)

🌸 Masaoki Bar
Also at the Willard, this pop-up sushi experience blends diplomacy and dining, honoring historic Japanese ties with a menu of pristine nigiri, playful rolls, and perfectly paired sake. Named for Chief Ambassador Shinmi Masaoki, who led Japan’s first diplomatic delegation to the US in 1860 and stayed at Willard, this intimate pop-up in the Lincoln Library honors that historic visit while celebrating the precision and elegance of Japanese cuisine. It’s a walk-in-worthy hidden gem for blossom-season bites. (Available Fridays–Sundays, March 13–April 26, 4–9 pm. Walk-ins only)

🌸 Blossom-Inspired Sips
Cocktail culture gets a spring refresh with cherry blossom creations and globally inspired pours. This season, Bourbon Steak has unveiled a new lineup of cocktails in collaboration with Handshake, the Mexico City speakeasy recognized as the #2 Bar on the World’s 50 Best Bars list. And there’s a one-time only Bourbon Steak Cherry Blossom collaboration, aptly titled The Bloom Affect, on the menu only until May… Don’t miss it.

Peak bloom may be fleeting, but these petal-powered picks are just some of the fun that proves the season’s spirit lingers far beyond the Tidal Basin.
