[Vid] Fairmont Teaches Horton’s Kids About Culinary Careers
In a unique partnership with the Fairmont, Washington DC, Horton’s Kids participants took cooking lessons with the hotel’s acclaimed staff. They learned to select ingredients, prepare and cook savory foods, and even ended the program with a sweet ending — dessert!
The purpose of the program was the introduce Horton’s Kids participants to career options they may not have known are available to them.
“This is something that can give them an idea of how their creativity can actually provide a new life for them,” shared their program director. “It gives them a chance to ‘get their hands dirty….’ with sugar and flour.”
Now graduates of the multi-week program, these kids will be star chefs at their own fundraising dinner at the Fairmont’s Juniper Restaurant. Tonight (June 19, 2019), the kids take their talents to the next level, assisting in preparing a special prix-fixe dinner ($75). The special menu remains available through June 26th., with 25% of proceeds directly benefitting Horton’s Kids.
