Tickets to This Alexandria Drive-In Are Already Selling Out
Drive-in theatres are making a comeback during coronavirus, and this Alexandria experience is especially exciting for DC-area neighbors looking for a safe and socially distant way to enjoy classic cinema under the stars.
The Alexandria Drive-In Theatre, presented by ALX Community and The Garden, will officially kick off on Saturday, August 29, and continue for six Saturdays, through October 3.
“Our fall series of movies will hopefully lighten your heart and any worries you have while you and your neighbors enjoy a few hours together, apart,” says Kelly Grant, Chief Operating Officer for ALX Community.
Here’s the line-up:
- Jurassic Park, Saturday, August 29, 2020
- Back to the Future, Saturday, September 5, 2020
- Trolls, Saturday, September 12, 2020
- Field of Dreams, September 19, 2020
- ET, Saturday, September 26, 2020
- Mamma Mia, Saturday, October 3, 2020
The Alexandria Drive-In will be located at 5001 Eisenhower Ave. in a parking lot that can comfortably accommodate up to 215 cars per screening. Masks are required at check-in and whenever outside the vehicle.
Movie patrons can bring their own refreshments or support food truck cuisine from local vendors courtesy of Curbside Kitchen, who will be onsite to provide a rotating selection of sweet and savory snacks and suppers from The Chewish Deli, Gemma Gelato, Capital Chicken & Waffles and Bangkok — offered via mobile ordering. Each vehicle will receive a garbage bag for guests to bin their own trash and to carry out post-screening.
Gates open at 7:30 p.m and movies start at 8:30 p.m. Ticket cost is $30 per car — which will ALL serve to benefit two Alexandria based local charities: ACT for Alexandria and Athena Rapid Response.
