Sandlot at Buzzard Point Opens For All Ages Fun & Games

Sandlot Southwest, located at the future site of a mixed-use development, may be a lot like the sandlot in that mid-1990s movie for some.  It’s a place for fun, play, and making memories.

DCer Ian Callender (Owner of Suite Nation), and his childhood friend and business ally, Kevin Hallums (Rock Creek Social Club), wanted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of one of their favorite movies, “The Sandlot.” Using it as inspiration, they dreamed up this 4,000-square-foot open-air cultural and social experiential space, which was built from scratch in partnership with Absolut, Lyft & Sunbelt Rentals, and is located directly across the street from Audi Field.

Sandlot (1800 Half Street SW) celebrate its soft opening through St. Patrick’s Day, offering regular food & beverage experiences mixed with music, arts & culture. Events are free and all ages and include a Saturday tailgate party for the return of DC Unites to Audi Field for their first Saturday Night home game (4 p.m. to midnight), featuring a shipping container bar, live music and BBQ offerings. (21+ After 7p); and a special St. Patrick’s Day event featuring green cocktails, green graffiti & St. Paddies Day Melts. (21+ After 5pm)
