Mr. Make It Happen Has Opened a ‘Fraiche’ Spot in Columbia Heights

A new addition to Columbia Heights’ dining scene is drawing attention—not just for its menu, but for its unique blend of cultures and its roots in the local community. Fraiche, which means “fresh” in French, has quietly opened its doors on 14th Street NW, offering a menu that pulls inspiration from French, Cajun, South American, and Caribbean cuisines.

The restaurant is led by Executive Chef Matt Price, who many might recognize from social media where he’s built a large following under the name Mr. Make It Happen. With over 1 million Instagram followers and a popular YouTube channel, Price has cultivated a reputation for flavorful, approachable cooking. Now, he’s bringing that same energy to a brick-and-mortar space in DC.

Fraiche occupies a renovated building that once served as a theater, just steps from the GALA Hispanic Theatre. The design makes subtle nods to the space’s history and offers an artsy modern interior. While it’s a feast for several senses, Fraiche is a place where casual diners and food enthusiasts alike can settle in without feeling like the atmosphere is trying too hard.

The menu reflects Price’s approach to cooking—layered flavors, influences from multiple cultures, and a focus on fresh ingredients. And this spring, the Fraiche vibe will only get better: additional sectioned outdoor seating is planned for the warmer months, perfect for al fresco dining as the neighborhood comes alive.

And there’s more to look forward to! A lively weekend brunch experience is in the works, one that promises not just delicious food but energy to spare—with a live DJ adding some groove to your mimosa.
