IllumiNATIONdc To Encourage Light and Hope in DC

We all know that most residents cannot participate in this year’s inauguration. But one local DC advocate, searching for a meaningful way to celebrate, has found her own way to bring light and hope to our nation’s capital.

“I formed a working group to brainstorm ideas on illuminating the city in creative ways,” Celina Gerbic told K Street Magazine. “We have decided [on] an event that all residents can do safely from home… It’s an activity that people of all ages can join in.”

IllumiNATIONdc is being promoted as a virtual event in which DC residents will place luminarias or lights in their windows or outside their homes starting at dusk on Inauguration Night on January 20, 2021. Collectively, the lights are meant to encourage and inspire.

“We encourage you to also write a message of hope,” says Gerbic.

For those participating within the District, IllimiNATIONdc recommends doing this in the safety of your own homes and paying close attention to any security alerts as well as the safety of your light choice.
