New Hyatt House Brings Elevated Extended-Stay Experience to Convention Center/Shaw

Nestled between the iconic Walter E. Washington Convention Center and the bustling Shaw neighborhood, the new Hyatt House, a 184-room hotel, offers a refreshing take on extended-stay accommodations in one of the District’s most vibrant areas.

Designed to cater to both short-term visitors and those planning longer stays, Hyatt House’s mission is to combine the conveniences of a full-service hotel with the comforts of apartment-style living. Spacious suites feature full kitchens, separate living areas, and expansive bathrooms… and the hotel promises a true “home away from home” experience, appealing to both convention-goers and leisure travelers alike.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the second Hyatt House to the neighbors of my hometown, Washington DC, and to visitors attending events at the Convention Center,” Evens Charles, Founder & CEO of Frontier Development & Hospitality Group, the property’s ownership entity, said.

“This project reflects our commitment to investing in communities that embody culture, creativity, and forward momentum.”

Charles highlighted the hotel’s focus on thoughtful design and extended-stay amenities, recognizing the growing demand for such accommodations in the city.

Among the property’s standout features is its 24/7 fitness center, a complimentary breakfast bar, and communal spaces designed for both work and relaxation.

But what truly sets this new Hyatt House apart is its upcoming rooftop bar, slated to open later this fall. Offering panoramic 360-degree views of the city’s skyline, the chic bar will serve craft cocktails and small plates, establishing itself as a prime spot for both locals and visitors to unwind.

Leading the charge at the Hyatt House is Donte Johnson, a DC native and hospitality industry veteran. Johnson, who returns to the city after years managing award-winning hotels in Miami, Baltimore, and Atlanta, is passionate about creating a space that feels both welcoming and authentically connected to the neighborhood.
