The National Building Museum hosts
THE BIG DRAW, a free day-long festival that invites visitors to discover the power of drawing as a tool for communication and design. A highlight this year will be live drawing demonstrations and book signings from Caldecott Medal-winning author and illustrator
David Macaulay who has a special gallery within the Museum’s
Building Stories exhibition featuring his recently re-released book,
Rome Antics that will be available for purchase at the Museum store.
THE BIG DRAW is a complement to the Museum’s ongoing long-term exhibition,
Building Stories, that explores the world of architecture, engineering, construction, and design through the lens of children’s books.
Throughout this day of creative exploration, visitors of all ages can engage in quick drawing prompts, participate in a bookmark design workshop led by illustrator Leila Cabib, hear from architectural professionals about the role of drawing in their work, contribute to Positive Chalk’s “Chalk Walk” or enjoy interactive storytime sessions, among other activities. Visitors are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks or use materials provided by the Museum.
