August 27 marks Raoul Wallenberg Day, Swedenâs national day for equal rights and civil courage. Held on Raoulâs âname dayâ in the Swedish calendar, it is the first Swedish national day to honor a civilian, and an occasion that commemorates his extraordinary efforts during the Holocaust and the enduring legacy of his compassion and bravery.
To celebrate Raoul Wallenberg Day, join us for a special screening of Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg, a powerful 1990 Swedish historical drama directed by Kjell Grede and starring acclaimed actor Stellan SkarsgĂĽrd. The film traces Wallenbergâs remarkable transformation from a businessman into a humanitarian hero. Using his diplomatic status, he forged protective passports and created safe houses, ultimately saving tens of thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Budapest. The film earned widespread acclaim in Sweden, winning multiple Guldbagge Awards, including Best Film and Best Director.
Weâre honored to be joined by Dr. Ionela Ana DÄsculČu, a Romanian-born historian from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, whose research sheds light on the lives of Jewish children and orphans in Romanian-occupied Transnistria during WWII.
Guests will also have the chance to explore our new exhibition, @stoltjude (â@proudJewâ), featuring personal stories from young Swedish Jews shared via the Instagram account @stoltjude. Produced by the Jewish Youth Federation Sweden and the Living History Forum, this exhibition is part of the celebration of 250 years of Jewish life in Sweden.
