CitizenM Checks Into Georgetown

A new 230-room hotel brings citizenM’s colorful, compact take on hospitality to Georgetown.

The property’s third DC location is now open at 3401 K Street, just a short walk from the Georgetown waterfront. (ProTip: CitizenM Georgetown is also the brand’s first new opening since joining the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, giving guests the option to earn and redeem Bonvoy points during citizenM stays.)

Designed by Amsterdam-based Concrete, citizenM’s longtime architecture partner, the hotel takes the brand’s familiar approach to design: bold colors, sleek minimalist room furnishings, and a focus on making the absolute most of compact spaces.

Its location puts guests within easy reach of Georgetown’s shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as Georgetown University.

Inside, the hotel is designed as much for hanging out as checking in. There’s a living room for working or unwinding, the 24/7 canteenM for snacks and drinks, a round-the-clock gym and an assortment of artwork, including a newly commissioned mural by DC artist J.D. Deardourff.

The guest rooms stick to citizenM’s streamlined formula. Wall-to-wall XL king beds, rain showers, 4K TVs and free Wi-Fi cover the essentials, while an in-room iPad controls everything from the temperature and blinds to the lighting and television.

While Georgetown may be better known for historic rowhouses and longstanding institutions, citizenM –now under its new Marriott Bonvoy umbrella — has its own eye-catching character adding some boldness, convenience (and in our experience, affordability!) that’s nice to have in the neighborhood.
