Cherry Blossom Festival Dates Drop for DC’s Most Delightful Season

Spring’s most photogenic phenomenon is officially on the calendar. The 2026 National Cherry Blossom Festival will sweep into Washington with petal-powered pageantry from March 20 through April 12, promising three weeks of rosy revelry across the region.

The big news blossoming out of this week’s kickoff press conference at The Mayflower Hotel: the National Park Service predicts peak bloom, when roughly 70 percent of the delicate Yoshino cherry trees circling the Tidal Basin burst open, will arrive March 29 through April 1. (Translation: prime petal-peeping just as the city slips fully into spring.)

Festival president Diana Mayhew joined local leaders and partners to unveil a calendar packed with fan favorites and fresh festivities — a flurry of fashion, flying kites, and floral-filled fun.

Signature Celebrations to Circle on the Calendar

🌸 Pink Tie Party – March 13
The festival’s fashionable fête returns to Union Station where the pink carpet will roll out for a style-centric soirée themed “The Art of Fashion.” Expect a swirl of floral fits, craft cocktails, and cuisine from some of the capital’s culinary standouts, plus live music and a benefit auction.

🌸 Opening Ceremony – March 21
For the first time, the festival’s formal kickoff lands at DAR Constitution Hall. Presented alongside The Japan Foundation, the performance celebrates the historic 1912 gift of cherry trees from Tokyo and the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan.

🌸 BloomFest at the Tidal Basin – March 20–April 12
Daily performances pop up on the ANA Stage near the Jefferson Memorial, delivering everything from bluegrass to flamenco. Expect a globe-trotting lineup of dance, music, and movement, from Japanese traditions to double dutch demonstrations.

🌸 Blossom Kite Festival – March 28
Sky-high spectacle takes over the grounds of the Washington Monument, where colorful kites fill the air. This year’s theme, “Red, White and Bloom,” nods to America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

🌸 Petalpalooza – April 4
This petal-packed party transforms the Navy Yard waterfront into an all-ages playground of art installations, music, roaming performers, and a fireworks finale along the Anacostia River.

🌸 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade – April 11
A petal-powered procession of floats, giant balloons, bands, and performers sweeps down Constitution Avenue, delivering the festival’s grandest spectacle — and one of the capital’s most beloved spring traditions.

With peak bloom poised to paint the National Mall in pastel hues just days into the festival, locals and visitors alike should prepare for a perfectly pink preview of spring.
