Midsummer marks summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and a magical moment when the sun barely sets in Sweden. It’s also an occasion to celebrate life and love by gathering with family and friends.
On Midsummer Eve, we invite Washingtonians and visitors alike to the open-air terraced lawn of the Sylvan Theater for an evening full of joy, music, and community—all against the stunning backdrop of the Washington Monument. Dance around the maypole (midsommarstång), make your own flower crown, and celebrate like a true Swede.
What to Expect:
Bring your friends, your family, a picnic blanket, and whatever food your heart desires—everyone is welcome to this free and festive celebration of light, nature, and togetherness.
Let’s welcome summer the Swedish way: with laughter, flowers, and dancing! Make sure you follow us on @SwedeninUSA on Instagram for videos and reels leading up to our celebration! #SwedishMidsummerDC
