If you can’t make it to Louisville for the 150th Kentucky Derby this year, Hi-Lawn is transforming its expansive turf into a day-long infield party on Saturday, May 4. One of DC’s largest rooftops, situated right above Union Market, will play host to a free-to-attend viewing party from 2-8pm complete with mint juleps, live bluegrass music, hobby horse races and a fancy hat contest with prizes.
The open-air roof will feature two large TVs for race viewing (with a 6:45pm post time), plus a bar stocked with mint juleps, bourbon and other themed cocktails.
Bringing the infield party vibes to life, guests can compete in stick horse racing contests starting at 4pm, while jamming out to live music by Moose Jaw Bluegrass from 3:30-5:30pm.
Hi-Lawn will also have lawn games for guests to play, including cornhole, Jenga, chess, giant Connect Four and Yahtzee. And attendees are encouraged to don their finest seersucker, sundresses, and stylish toppers, as Hi-Lawn will host a fancy hat contest, with prizes such as happy hour for four, and gift cards.
Hi-Lawn’s Kentucky Derby Viewing Party is free to attend, with all food and beverage sold a la carte. Reservations are available on Resy, but walk-ins will also be welcomed. Guests can access Hi-Lawn through the dedicated rooftop staircase at the front-east entrance to Union Market, adjacent to Suburbia.
