Kiss, Kiss, Hooray! DC Sets World Record for Most Couples Under the Mistletoe
It’s a holiday miracle, Washington! The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) has officially smooched its way into the history books with the National Kiss Under the National Mistletoe event, shattering a Guinness World Record for the most couples kissing simultaneously beneath the mistletoe.
On Saturday, December 13, a stunning 1,435 couples — yes, you read that right — locked lips for five seconds under the 10-foot-tall, Instagram-worthy National Mistletoe at Anthem Row. The record-breaking moment took place at 4:15 pm, amidst a flurry of festive fun that included live tunes from the Ellington Carthan Quartet featuring Valentina Maria, interactive art, photobooths, and bites and sips from City Tap House and Root & Vine.
The previous record, held by Anheuser-Busch at a 2019 event in St. Louis, was a humble 480 couples. But this time around, DC redefined romance with a massive leap in participation, delighting lovers and spectators alike. And yes, Guinness World Records representatives were on hand to certify the achievement, so this record is officially sealed with a kiss.
