Young Opera Star says Getting the Final Bow is a “Big Deal”

After headlining the performance of “The Marriage of Figaro” at the Kennedy Center Thursday night, Alecksey Bogdanov (at left with Megan Ortagus) headed to Circle Bistro for the late night cast party put on by the Opera’s Generation O.

A baritone in his first season with the National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist program, Bogdanov stole the show with his voluminous vocals, comedic timing, and ability to move – even roll – around the stage carrying a note.

“It’s all in the heels.  You learn to really ground yourself,”  he shared about singing while in awkward positions.  “As for my other tricks… I can’t tell you.  We have all sorts of crazy techniques.”

While he won’t spill his secrets,  he will admit – with a bit of bashfulness – that his favorite part of Figaro is the end…and getting that final bow.

“I could pretend like it’s not a big deal to me,” he said.  “But it totally is.”
