Spiced rum and a summer sunset?!  Yes, please!

Looking ahead to the summer season, last December the bar staff at The Wharf’s Canopy Hotel began infusing bottles of white rum from DC craft distillers Cotton & Reed with spices. You may have spotted the special wooden barrel those bottles were transferred to… It’s been set up in the corner of the lobby.

Rum lovers like us have been lusting after a taste.  And our wishes have been granted! Earlier this week, the warm amber spirit moved from barrel to bottle for a limited supply of the exclusive label Wharf Spiced Rum, which is now available at Canopy Central and upstairs, at Whiskey Charlie.

“We are passionate about partnering with local artisans, like our friends at Cotton & Reed, to share their crafts with our guests who have come to expect something extra special during their stay at Canopy,” says the hotel’s Lead Food & Drink Enthusiast Zachary Wendel. “We’re excited to have an exclusive label rum to offer alongside Cotton & Reed’s other styles, like the Mellow Gold, which is our well rum at Canopy Central.”

Wharf Spiced Rum is a bar-infused white rum using a blend of warm spices including cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, and black pepper, which was aged in a bourbon-soaked oak barrel on loan from the distillery. Just over 200 bottles of Wharf Spiced Rum were culled from the barrel which is available for single pours, as well as in signature cocktails.

We suggest taking in those Wharf sites with a Cut & Rum ($14), rum-my and refreshing, made with fresh lime, pineapple juice, orange bitters and a pineapple-cider float.
