Sure – Frankenstorm makes things even scarier this year. But you can’t rely on howling wind and a torrential downpour when you’re looking to dress up for that Halloween party.
You waited until the last minute? Believe it or not, that’s ok! Here are our favorite costume shops that’ll have your best bets for those final frightful — or funny — outfits (assuming the pouring stops and the party still takes place):
Backstage, Inc. (545 8th Street NE) – Absolutely DC’s best. Backstage boasts an unbeatable array of make-up, wigs and accessories and no pre-packaged polyester OSFA obscenities. Check out the downstairs for ridiculously affordable rentals.
Total Fright (4238 Wilson Blvd in the Ballston Common Mall) – This shop’s a surefire hit for the bagged and basic… and more. The two brothers that own this store have an eerie enthusiasm for spooky stuff, and it shows!
Gene’s Costumes (10636 Connecticut Ave., Kensington, MD) – Gene’s got purchases and rentals and a whole lotta uncommon accessories. Thinking of being something furry and fantastic? The animal costumes here are really awesome.
And don’t forget your local Party City franchises (295 Kentlands Blvd., Gaithersburg; 6000 Greenbelt Rd., Greenbelt; 3311-3319 Corridor Marketplace, Laurel), where you’re likely to find some of the more “done” disguises… but you can’t be too picky in a pinch!
