9th Annual National Harbor Food & Wine Festival @ National Harbor MD

A great summer tradition will return to the National Harbor Waterfront on the Potomac with the much anticipated 9th Annual National Harbor Wine & Food Festival on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24  from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm each day.

The event is in a beautiful outdoor setting on the banks of the Potomac River and surrounded by the National Harbor hotels, restaurants and shops, and continues to be a destination event.  More than just a tasting, the festival brings together award winning celebrity chefs, artisanal craftsmen, culinary pioneers, live music, as well as wine and spirits from around the world.

This year’s festival will include over 150 International wines, spirits and beers featured along with local and regional favorites in and all-you-care-to-taste affair.  Guests will be able to sample all of the varieties as well as purchase them by the glass and the bottle, on-site at special event only low prices. Beyond the drink tastings there are many other highlights which include:  Special craft beer tasting Bier Garten experience, Whiskey and Bourbon Tasting Lounge, Cooking Kitchen featuring hands-on cooking demonstrations and wine pairings, three stages of live music and so much more.  It is the largest award winning wine festival of its kind in the Metro DC market.

This year’s organizers have turned up the heat on the Cooking Stage and brought in some award winning super star chef talent. Special appearances on the Cooking Stage include, Saturday: Chef Scott Drewno of The Source by Wolfgang Puck, Chef Jennifer Carroll of Requin, and Chef Victor Albisu of Del Campo. Sunday will featureKwame Onwuachi of Shaw Bijou, Matt Baker of Gravitas and Chef Danny Lee of Mandu. All of these local, regional and nationally recognized chefs will offer meet and greets and cooking demonstrations.

Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center once again will kick-off this year’s Wine & Food Festival with a five-course wine dinner on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m.Partnering with Chimney Rock winemaker, Elizabeth Vianna, guests can enjoy notable vintages paired with exquisite dishes prepared by the executive chef at the resorts signature restaurant, Old Hickory Steakhouse. Cost is $125 per person and pre-purchase is required.

Crawfish Boil @ Pearl Dive Oyster Palace

Pearl Dive Oyster Palace and Black Jack will host their popular annual Crawfish Boil on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Diners can look forward to a spread of traditional Louisiana-style crawfish accompanied by a variety of Southern sides prepared by Chef Austin Ginsberg including corn on the cob, roasted red potatoes, house-smoked sausage, cole slaw, fritters and potato salad. Guests will also be treated to dishes like roasted gator and Pearl Dive’s famous Addie’s rolls stuffed with BBQ pork. Beverage options for those with a drink-inclusive ticket will include Shiner Bock, Hurricanes and house wine pours. To round out the meal, the restaurant will offer a build-your-own s’mores station for dessert.

Chef’s Best to benefit Food & Friends @ National Building Museum

On Monday, May 23trd, 38 of the area’s best chefs and mixologists will serve up special tastings of their signature dishes at Chef’s Best: A Taste of Compassion presented by AT&T. Hosted at the historic National Building Museum, Chef’s Best will benefit Food & Friends, a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC serving those living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses.

Thanks to the efforts of this year’s Celebrity Chef Chair Michael Friedman of The Red Hen & All Purpose, guests will enjoy tastings prepared by some of the region’s most talented chefs including: Victor Albisu, Del Campo & Taco Bamba; Erik Bruner-Yang, Maketto & Toki Underground; Jeff Black, Black Restaurant Group; Patrick Curran,Momofuku; Haidar Karoum, Doi Moi, Estadio & Proof; and Robert Wiedmaier, Mussel Bar, among other notables from the DC dining scene. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on an array of exciting silent and live auction items featuring fantastic trips, one-of-a-kind experiences and private dining opportunities.

DC Greens Spring Dig @ Dock 5 at Union Market

DC Greens, an organization aimed at supporting food education, food access and food policy in the nation’s capital, will host its second annual “Spring Dig” at Dock 5 at Union Market on May 24, 2016. Top chefs will prepare a seasonal, gourmet meal utilizing local purveyors, paired with Virginia wine and DC-distilled spirits. As with last year’s event, table sponsorships will come with customized, unforgettable culinary experiences in lieu of an auction.

 

What:             DC Greens’ Spring Dig will highlight local food, wine and spirits, while working toward their mission of building a healthy food system in DC that can be a model for the nation. Guests will enjoy a multi-course, family-style dinner prepared by a talented culinary team of chefs from the country’s best restaurants. During the pre-dinner cocktail reception, guests will be treated to drinks from Green Hat Gin, as well as wine from Virginia’s Early Mountain Vineyards, served from their Airstream. Early Mountain will also be providing wine throughout the dinner. The evening will be MCed by chair of the DC Food Policy Council and chef Spike Mendelsohn (Bearnaise/Good Stuff Eatery).

Jack Rose will kick off “Savor Week” with a rare visit from the Surly Brewing Co. out of Minnesota and their friends from Victory Brewing Co. out of Pennsylvania. Jack Rose’s Beer Director Nahem Simon has handpicked 10 beers from each brewery, such as Surly’s sought-after bourbon barrel-aged Darkness aged in High West Rye barrels and Victory’s seasonal Kirsch Gose, which will be featured on the bar’s state-of-the-art draft system with discounted pricing. The bar’s rooftop wood-fire grill will also churn out special tacos inspired by the states from which the beers were brewed.
Surly brews include: #Merica, 2015 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Darkness aged in High West Rye barrels, Asator Viking IPA, Cacao Bender, Cynic, Furious, Hell, Pentagram, Pils, and Todd The Axe Man.
Victory brews include: Anniversary XX, Blackboard, Cage Radler, Dirtwolf, Frische Weisse, Golden Monkey, Headwaters Pale, Kirsch Gose, Prima Pils, and Summer Love.
The event runs from 5pm-10pm and is open to the public with no admission fee.
