What to do for your ‘do

Fall has fallen much, much too quickly.  But though the temperatures will soon start dropping, DC fashionistas know better than to drop the ball on their haircare… despite Autumn wardrobes providing for that too tempting chapeau cure-all.

So we’ve compiled best bets and tips from some of the city’s top trendsetters for covetable coifs and trendy tresses.  Take a look at these locks!

Elaine Mensah, Founder of Svelte, LLC, says her best personal secret is to BE ADVENTUROUS.  “Don’t be afraid to cut, color, or just completely change your look.”

“My hairstylists scorn me, but I’m dead loyal to Herbal Essence Tousle Me Softly Shampoo & Conditioner,” laughs OhMyGoff’s Angie Goff.  “If I can’t wash with it, I know it’s going to be a bad hair day!”  She also gets set for the camera with Cibu’s Pho Finish light hold.

Makeda Saggau-Sackey sums up her secrets like this: PR @ Partners.

Fingerprint DC‘s Barbara Martin pampers herself with weekly blowouts – her favorite salon is Salon one80 – and she adds deep conditioning treatments when time allows.

Designer Aidah Fontenot says that “for black hair, it’s all about keeping it smooth and moisturized.”  Oils are a necessity – alcohol based products are her biggest don’t!

“I’m not sure I’ve ever owned a blowdryer,” admits Katherine Kennedy.  “”I just let my hair air dry (sometimes in braids) as I walk through the city.”  Her other secret?  She keeps her scalp dry with a light dusting of baby powder at the roots.  Sleek and chic!

Unlike K.K., Miss District of Columbia 2010, Stephanie Williams, needs the quick convenience of a blowdryer, and she loves her Parlux 3800.  “I love, love, love it!” she gushes.  But even the Queen knows how temps can ruin her sheen.  She suggests always blowdrying in an air conditioned room.
