West Side Story Returns to Where It All Began

Did you know that West Side Storymade its world premiere at the National in 1957 prior to heading to Broadway?

Today the landmark American musical returned to its theatrical home at the National Theatre — and stays for one week only, June 3 through 8. Back where it all began.

West Side Story tells of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria as they struggle to rise above the prejudice that surrounds them. It is one of the greatest love stories — and rivalries — of all time and, now in its latest revival, remains as powerful, poignant, and timely as ever. You’ll sing along to the notable  Bernstein and Sondheim score with favorites like “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “America,” and “I Feel Pretty.”

After five decades, the Sharks and Jets return to dance and sing their struggles where they first became favorites.  “Somewhere” is here!
