Preventative pampering?

“It’s not just pampering, primping… trimming and tanning,”  says honorary chair Deborah Szekely.  “It’s about wellness.”

The official formation of the Washington Spa Alliance – a community of Capital Region Spas and other wellness centers – was announced at a tea Thursday at the Jefferson Hotel.  One of only a handful of Spa Alliances around the country, the Washington association plans to hold an annual symposium, share best practices and engage in advocacy.

“This is a singular time in our nation’s history when Washington is looking closely at how our country can be healthier,” Szekely added.  “Americans increasingly [turn] to spas to learn about the importance of diet and exercise… to redefine ideas of beauty and well-being and to learn techniques… of preventative medicine.”

To further celebrate the Alliance’s formation and wellness in the Washington region, National Harbor will welcome the 2010 International Spa Association and Expo this Fall.
