The wait is over — and the dresses are waiting! Rent the Runway has now opened shop in the heart of Georgetown, in Cady’s Alley, with a party last week hosted by founders Jenn Hyman and Jenny Fleiss, with Project Runway’s Christian Siriano.
Last Monday night, well heeled party-goers were treated to delicious crêpes and macaroons courtesy of Georgetown’s own Malmaison, accompanied by a glass of wine, surrounded by gorgeous gowns. Guests took pictures in a “selfie mirror,” even trying on the gowns and jewelry to create impressive outfits for potential OOTD snaps.
Rent the Runway, while commonly used online, is extremely popular in the DC area for galas, parties, and even wardrobes ideas for dates and brunch. The Georgetown location of Rent the Runway is one of few physical stores )the others being in New York and Las Vegas) where RTR users can arrange a consultation and create the perfect look for whatever the occasion.
On hand at the grand opening party, designer Christian Siriano talked about his lines at Rent the Runway, both online and in the store, and how everyone can find something fabulous.
“We are able to give a little bit of our collection and things that are special, and everyone can have them at an affordable price,” said Siriano. “I love that people get the chance to wear something fabulous.”
As for his favorite trend for evening wear this holiday season? “None, I have none. That’s why I think what is great about Rent the Runway, you have so many different styles, so many different shapes. I think with evening wear, if you want to wear a party dress, or a cocktail dress, you just really have to find something that really is right for your body.”
