“I’ve had people come up to me and be like, ‘We played “Push” at our wedding!’ and I’m like ‘Have you heard that song? You guys are doomed.’ I’m no Dr. Phil, but I can tell you those guys are doomed,” laughed Matchbox Twenty‘s Rob Thomas as he and Kyle Cook began a busy musical day in DC with an appearance at the MIX 107.3 Jack Diamond Morning Show.
The duo were in town promoting their newest album, North, which is the band’s first #1. “In 16 years, the first one we’ve ever had…” admitted Cook. “It took us a while to push that wagon uphill.”
They performed two songs — “Bent” and “She’s So Mean” — live acoustically for a select few radio listeners before heading over to The Hamilton for their final appearance on this U.S. promotional tour, this time for 94.7 Fresh FM, where they added five more songs, “Overjoyed,” “Disease,” “I Will,” “If You’re Gone,”and “3 AM” and explained the inspirations behind them for a larger lunchtime audience.
The afternoon FreshFM acoustic session also included The Tommy Show morning team and afternoon DJ Derik Kristofer getting the guys to spill on wrong relationships, Santana, George Michael comeback songs, wearing women’s pants… and the electoral college?
