Getting a sweet treat was easy as pie Thursday at Farragut Square Park when Food & Friends held a Pie Day to kick-off its 2012 Slice of Life Pie Sale.
With a goal to sell 7,600 pies (and find out whether DC prefers pumpkin or apple), the non-profit — which funds and distributes nutritious, home-delivered meals and groceries to the critically ill in our community — spent the afternoon raffling prizes, hosting pie-themed games and giving away FREE samples of its pies that are for sale during its annual Slice of Life Pie Sale.
As they tallied the votes of passersby, we caught up with Food and Friends to find out whether apple or pumpkin would prevail… and how each pie purchased will provide ONE FULL DAY of MEALS for a Food & Friends client:

Update! Apple won the contest, and so will be on discount for the remainder of the day.

I vote pumpkin! But that pecan looks like a winner, too

Love Food & Friends. I volunteered with them last year and it made me feel so good about myself. What they do for the community is really awesome.
