Vegan? VegFest Has Everything You Never Knew You Needed

Last Thursday, Busboys and Poets hosted the annual DC VegFest preview party at their 5^th and K Street NW location.  Guests sampled items from Busboys and Poets’ vegan menu which included vegan sliders, vegan sausage, vegan pulled chicken, vegan tuna and numerous vegan cheese platters as well as itmes from other on-site vendors to include Craft Kombucha, a Better Batch, Undone Chocolate, Daiya, Dr. Bronners, Nourrie Cuisine and Savory Gal. And, of course, there was definitely the opportunity to sip on vegan wine and organic beer. 

The event was organized to preview the 13^th annual VegFest, which will be held on September 24 from 11am-6pm.  This annual event, presented by Compassion Over Killing, is expected to draw close to 25,000 visitors.   Unlike similar events in other cities, the DC VegFest is free to attend.  More than 40 food vendors are expected to participate, including HipCityVeg, Shouk, 3 Twisted Vegans, Roots Market, Treeline Cheese, Vegan Treats, Busboys & Poets, and Tofurky.

There will also be several speakers and panels throughout the day including:

• Jonathan Balcombe, animal behavior expert, and author of What a Fish Knows
• Elizabeth Kucinich, policy consultant at the Plant-Based Foods Association
• Leilani Münter, professional race car driver and environmental activist
• Marco Antonio Regil, actor and television host
• Torre Washington, award-winning vegan bodybuilder

The popular “Ask a Vegan Family” panel also returns this year along with a beer garden, live music and a dog-friendly zone.
