Valerie Jarrett and Oscar winning actress Joan Allen “Make No Little Plans”

Wednesday’s night screening of the documentary “Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and The American City” explored the life and legacy of visionary architect and city planner Daniel Bunham, largely responsible for the redesign of the National Mall back in 1901.

The Mall is again in need of much work.  Currently $400M behind in maintenance and craving general ‘love and care,’ the release of “Make No Little Plans” may well bring some much needed attention to the country’s front lawn.

Oscar nominated actress Joan Allen, serving as narrator, was in attendance, along with Valerie Jarrett (Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs & Public Engagement), His Excellency Willy C. Gaa (Phillipine Ambassador to the United States), National Mall President Caroline Cunningham, Director Judith Paine McBrien, and relatives of the illustrious Mr. Bunham.  (See pictures above left)
The government has a commitment to fund National Mall maintenance efforts, assisted by generous private donors.  Ms. Allen (at right with the Director) agreed the law was on her side when she started this project – it was her lawyer who brought her the script!
