Out of many, one… and out of Mendocino’s old M Street space… Unum. That’s right, new owners and a new name, but our favorite outer Georgetown twelve seat bar is back!
Former Equinox Sous Chef Phillip Blane and wife, Laura Schiller (Chief of Staff to Senator Barbara Boxer), are opening a contemporary American spot in this coveted space, keeping those great California wines on the menu to accompany such delicious dishes as crawfish and grits, house made rosemary gnocchi, and the Chef’s favorite — a smoky rich duck breast with whipped potatoes and pomegranate sauce.
“We felt that the connotation of E Pluribus Unum fit with our style of food and recognizes the diversity of our community and neighborhood,” explained Blane of the name, a crafty one, which also serves as a reminder of his wife’s political work.
AND… This couple that cooks together, nooks together, apparently. Although Unum’s space is small, a mere 50 seats, they have set up a “small bookshelf with books from our personal library… [which] have personal meanings to us for different reasons,” in case diners want to cook the books!
