That was Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagen joining some 50+ notable Washingtonians to introduce 18th Street Films and Story House Production’s award winning filmmakers Karim Chrobog, Vincent Renner and Carsten Oblaender’s latest project with a purpose, “In the Sign of Cancer” at Kastles Stadium at the Wharf Monday night.

Savorily sponsored by Design Cuisine, the event, hosted by Tara de Nicolas’ new Georgetown Consulting Group and held just before one of the teams’ last regular season matches, helped to raise awareness for the documentary film and its crowd-funding campaign, slated to launch October 7th.

In the Sign of Cancer” will look at the global war on one of the deadliest diseases: cancer.  It features first person accounts from the world’s leading cancer experts and other industry insiders that will suggest what individuals can do to confront cancer in new ways.

Hagan, who travels the country speaking on her personal platform of Child Sexual Abuse Awareness & Prevention, also took on the role of Children’s Miracle Network spokesperson when she won the Miss America crown.  While in town lobbying members of Congress, she scheduled other philanthropic personal appearances and, apparently, really enjoyed some “Miss America Perks.”  She tweeted:

UHM…. @serenawilliams just got here. Major girl power happening. #loveher#socool@WashKastles
