The Ugly Mug Barracks Row Unveils New Look

20160920_173001_1_bestshotBarracks Row in Capitol Hill is full of interesting businesses. And here’s one of our faves!

Gaynor Jablonski, owner of The Ugly Mug and a member of the District Restaurant Group, decided to give his bar/restaurant a facelift. For 18 months, work was underway to create a space more welcoming to patrons in their mid-30s/40s.  Less than two weeks ago, the construction was finally unveiled to the public.20160920_183406_4_bestshot

And the new space is a breath of fresh air!  Around the new Ugly Mug, patrons will find small booths perfect for two people to sit across from each other and have a chat. Not sure what to talk about? More likely than not, the content on the flat screen TVs (which were tuned to CNN and ESPN on our visit) would provide some conversation fodder. If all else fails, the booth space provides the opportunity to use any smart devices you have on hand, easily recharged through nearby power sockets in an environment that is Wi-Fi 20160920_191721_3_bestshotaccessible.

But don’t think the new Mug is is fresh faced and not fresh fared.  A new menu includes a lot of interesting pizzas, including red and white clam pizza, a veggie pie, and one that includes chorizo and banana peppers.

Cheers to this 11 year old business getting that much better!
