Three Top Places to Celebrate Lunar (Chinese) New Year

It’s the Year of the Tiger according to the lunar calendar and several places in the DC area are offering restaurant specials and other celebrations to bring prosperity and good fortune in 2022. Here is a trio of favorites:

Tiger Fork

Hong Kong-inspired Tiger Fork in Blagden Alley is celebrating an extra-special Chinese New Year this year, which happens to be the eponymous Year of the Tiger, and the restaurant’s 5-year anniversary. From February 1-13, Tiger Fork will serve a special a la carte menu of symbolic Cantonese dishes for both dine-in and takeout, each representing a specific virtue to bring good luck for the coming year. And during dinner service on Saturday, February 5, the festive restaurant will host traditional  Tai Yim Kung Fu Lion Dancers!

Mandarin Oriental

Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. celebrates Chinese New Year 2022, the year of the Tiger, with a sensational dancing lion appearance, calligrapher, themed Afternoon Tea, authentic Chinese cuisine, and specialty cocktails. All February a themed Afternoon Tea, Dim Sum, and cocktail menus will be available in Empress. (We love the Eye of the Tiger !) But don’t miss out on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 3:00p.m. in the hotel lobby, when guests and visiting locals can experience a traditional dynamic and colorful lion dance in the main lobby and have a Chinese calligrapher write their name in traditional Chinese script.

Peking Gourmet Inn

A go-to of celebs and political notables, Peking Gourmet Inn has been serving up family-style American Chinese dishes — and Peking Duck! — for over three decades. And it’s a popular spot to fête the Lunar New Year as well, with a special menu symbolizing abundance, profit, luck, and more… if you can wrap your mind around ordering anything but that delicious duck.
