Toast of the Town

Throwing a Wine and Cheese Party?
Take a cue from Wine Enthusiast. The magazine hosted the biggest wine and cheese party of the year Friday night at the National Building Museum with nearly 100 vineyards, chateaux and restaurants offering more than 500 wines and finger foods at their annual Toast of the Town event. And like any good Reserve Torrontes (said the folks at Trivento, anyway), it was all in the crisp, finishing touches.
Take the interludes of smooth jazz played by the David Bach Consort. Or the complimentary tasting glasses, which guests rinsed between every new wine using the wine rinsers available at each table. Or—a personal favorite—the wine plates that held both hors d’oeuvres and a wine glass—helpful when balancing Melting Pot goodies in one hand and The Palm’s lobster salad in the other.

But who said wine and cheese parties had to be just wine and cheese? Matchbox offered tequila shots with their beef sliders, and even Starbucks made an appearance (like wines, coffee notes and flavors vary based on where and how the beans are grown).  Grapes are great… but anything goes.
