To Fly is Human, To Hover is Divine

Visitors to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum got a special treat when several area helicopters flew in for public display at the Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles Airport on Saturday.

Museum visitors of all ages got a chance to mingle with helicopter pilots and crews from the U.S. Army National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, Fairfax County Police Department, and several civilian companies.

The day was especially exciting for children who were allowed to sit in the cockpits and try the helicopters on for size.  Fast forward 20 years… and a helicopter pilot somewhere may be reminscing about “the day I realized that I wanted to learn how to fly.”
